Patients who are very ill or severely injured may be directly admitted as a hospital inpatient – where the patient will continue to receive dedicated medical treatment over a longer period of time. Patients whose conditions are less severe may be directly discharged from the Emergency Department along with comprehensive written instructions and/or prescriptions/medications that are needed to facilitate the healing process.
