Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a type of imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose or treat many types of cancers, heart disease and certain other abnormalities within the kidneys, lungs, gallbladder, bones, bowel, thyroid, brain, and lymph nodes. A radiotracer is administered and eventually accumulates in the area of your body being examined, where it gives off energy that detected by a gamma camera. The amount of radiotracer absorbed by your body is measured to produce images of the structure and function of organs and tissues.
